Fans were entertained by some quality cricket played in the triple header of the T20 World Cup 2022 on October 27 (Thursday). In the first place, South Africa humbled Bangladesh by 104 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground. And then, while Team India handily defeated the Netherlands in the second match, Pakistan had to suffer a disappointing defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe in the third match.
For India, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav hit fifty at bat and helped India reach 179 runs in the allotted 20 overs. None of the Dutch pitchers were effective against India’s strong batting line-up.
In response, the batting team was only able to score 123 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh each ripped out two wickets. Speedster Mohammed Shami also earned a wicket. In the spin department, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin bagged two wickets each.
Pakistan failed to chase 131 runs against Zimbabwe
In the third game of the day, Zimbabwe he won the toss and opted to have a bat first. Thanks to senior batsman Sean Williams scoring over 30, they managed to reach 129 runs in the allotted 20 overs.
In response, the Zimbabwean bowling lineup was all over the Men in Green batsmen as they took wickets at regular intervals. It all came down to three runs required from the last three balls with the multi-talented Mohammad Nawaz in the crease for Pakistan.
However, Zimbabwe pacemaker Brad Evans held his nerve at a crucial moment in the game and allowed just one run on the last three balls, helping his team to a memorable victory over the Asian side. With that, Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals have been dealt a serious blow.
