The rain hurt South Africa again in its ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match against Zimbabwe at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Monday 24 October. The rain cost the Proteas a match they rightfully had in the bag with only 13 runs needed from a good four overs.
The Zimbabweans, on the other hand, didn’t mind that and lived to fight another day as both teams split the spoils. While the batsmen did their best to take them to a fighting total in their stipulated nine overs, their bowlers did not do them justice in the second innings.
South Africa and Zimbabwe share one point each
The rain played a perfect spoiler from the start in the clash between these African teams despite the fact that the first game of the day with Bangladesh and the Netherlands was completed without interruption with the Asian team winning by nine wickets.
Batting first, the Zimbabweans looked completely clueless against the new ball with the Proteas bowlers putting pressure on them and found themselves in all sorts of trouble after the sacking of all-round star Sikandar Raza and after veteran Sean Williams was sent off back at low cost, they were cut to 19/4 in the fourth over.
Nonetheless, the middle order duo of Wesley Madhevere and Milton Shumba added 60 runs for the fifth wicket that took them to 79/5 from their nine overs. Madehevere scored 35 from 18 balls while Shumba contributed a vital 18. Lungi Ngidi was the bowlers choice for South Africa with figures of 2/20.
In response, the Proteas began the attack from the word ‘go’ as Quinton de Kock seemed to be in a hurry to finish the process. Rain made his presence felt in the second over of the chase which shortened the contest to seven overs with a revised target of 64.
However, with South Africa sitting well at 51/0 after three overs, the rain gods intervened once again and with no play possible, the game was forced to abandon. De Kock remained undefeated in an 18-ball 47.

If this is going as a 5 overs game SA needs to make 50 in 5 overs
SA has already made 51 in 3 overs, still no win
These rain rules are weird, zero logic.
